German romanticism

Posted on

Next Friday, after a long postponement due to the corona crisis, I can finally give a concert in honor of my graduation at the Folkwang Universität der Künste. The theme is German Romanticism and songs by Strauss, Liszt and Brahms will be performed. I am very much looking forward to playing this beautiful program, together with singers Antonia Busse, Ian Spinetti and Vera Fiselier.

Een Pontje Meer, an impression

Last weekend I was at several ferries in Gelderland in The Netherlands with singer Vera Fiselier. There we made music for everyone who was waiting for the ferry. It was a successful weekend and we are very happy that we were able to carry out this project, supported by the Fonds Podiumkunsten!

Below is a short impression:

A few months ago singer Vera Fiselier and I applied to Fonds Podiumkunsten for the project ‘Een Pontje Meer’ and now we’re ready to carry out the project! In the weekend of 28 and 29 August we will be at several ferries in Gelderland, where we will make music for people who are waiting for the ferry.

The schedule for this weekend:

28th of August (Ferry Beusichem – Wijk bij Duurstede)

12:00 – 14:45 on the side of Beusichem & 15:00 – 17:00 on the side of Wijk bij Duurstede

29th of August (Ferry Culemborg – Schalkwijk)

12:00 & 14:00 – 15:00 – 17:00 on the side of Schalkwijk

Our project was inspired by the Italians. Do you remember? When all Italians were on their balconies during the corona pandemic making music for the whole neighborhood? With our project we also hope to make a lot of people happy when they have to wait for the ferry.

So are you in the mood for a nice bike ride? We look forward to seeing you at one of the ferries!

The Aalto Theatre

During the pandemic, I was lucky to be part of the team of repetitors in the Aalto Theatre in Essen for a couple of months. At first I was asked to prepare Il viaggio a Rheims from Rossini and a new composed piece called Impresario Dotcom from the czech composer Cevkovska. Due to the pandemic unfortunatly, these productions were cancelled.
Therefore I have worked on a Verdi programm instead, which was streamed online on youtube. Secondly, we did an alternative Zauberflöte production called: Vogelfänger in Kreuzverhör.
It was a cool experience to be part of a german theatre. Let’s keep it up!
Cheers!

Bonsai Garden

Last year, I contributed to the mini opera series Bonsai Garden produced by Opera Zuid, together with mezzo-soprano Vera Fiselier. This small opera series was created during the corona pandemic, in the middle of the first quarantine. Jan-Peter de Graaff composed these mini operas, in order to capture the different feelings we had during this weird time. The series was directed by Kenza Koutchoukali.

In this mini opera ‘Hands-free’, Amanda is trying to communicate through a text, that is being read out loud. The message consists of a series of emoticons.

Bonsai Garden, hands-free

We worked with the equipment we had at home at the time, since we weren’t able to meet anyone due to the corona virus. Our rehearsals with Jan-Peter and Kenza took place over Zoom and Skype and every time we finished a recording, we sent it to Jan-Peter so that he could give us his notes. The recordings were made with our own zoom-devices and laptopcamera’s and Zoey van der Heijden (editing) and Hans Erblich (sound) did a great job with the material we sent them.
